Azmina's Profile
Azmina is a qualified nutrition professional, having
graduated with an honours degree in Nutrition and obtained her postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics, both from Kings College, University of London.
She is fully registered with the British Dietetic Association and The Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine.
She worked as a therapeutic dietitian in a number of London-based hospitals where she obtained wide-ranging experience in many aspects of nutrition and health.
Azmina took on the significant role as Chief Dietitian to Diabetes UK for 8 years, between 1987and 1995, where she acted as National Consultant on diet and diabetes for health professionals, food manufacturers, the media and the general public.
Her role there included liaising with the food industry on the formulation of products and consumer information, influencing legislation and labelling of manufactured foods and formulating dietary policy for people with diabetes.
She then started her own consultancy business and is now the founding director of Govindji Nutrition.
Azmina is also a certified Master NLP Coaching Practitioner and uses her skills to help people change behaviour. She won the Aga Khan Education Board National Award for Excellence 2002 for outstanding professional achievement, judged by the former Chief Medical Officer for the Dept of Health, Professor Kenneth Calman.

Broadcasting / Media Experience
Azmina regularly appears on TV (ITV’s This Morning programme, Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff, Channel 4 Gordon Ramsay’s F word, News - BBC 1 Breakfast, ITN lunchtime news, Sky breakfast, etc) and Radio (BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live, series of radio interviews for World Cancer Research Fund, etc.). She has produced two diabetes education videos with GMTV's Dr Hilary Jones, and she will be appearing as nutrition expert in the British Heart Foundation’s DVD on heart disease prevention, Risking It, to be released in early 2007.
She is also regularly quoted in the national press and media (see azmina in the media).
Publications
Azmina is author of over a dozen books including Healthy Eating for Diabetes with Antony Worrall Thompson, Weight Watchers 123 Success Cookbook, and The Gi Plan, with behavioural expert Nina Puddefoot.
She writes numerous articles both for consumer magazines (e.g. BBC Olive, Slim at home) and professional journals (Nursing Standard, The Nutrition Practitioner, Complete Nutrition, etc).
Professional Positions & Membership Held
Azmina is a spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and a member of the British Heart Foundation Ethnic Strategy Committee. She is also a member of the BDA Dietitians in Obesity Management Group, the Editorial Board for the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation as well as the Society of Authors. Previously she was chairperson of the BDA Public Relations Committee, and a member of the BDA Executive Council.
Personal
Azmina enjoys spending time with her family, entertaining, novice interior design, yoga, travelling and a good games night with close friends.
